Ohio short term health insurance is the least expensive type of health care coverage. If you are a recent high school or college graduate that is no longer covered under a parent’s policy, then an affordable Ohio short term health insurance coverage might be your best option. We guarantee that the rates you view are the lowest available rates allowed by the state.

Also, if you are employed part-time or temporarily, between jobs, laid off, on strike, on Cobra or waiting for your permanent insurance to begin, you may need Ohio short term coverage. Temporary health insurance is extremely affordable and is available from the top Ohio insurers such as Anthem Blue Cross, UnitedHealthOne (formerly UnitedHealthCare), Medical Mutual, Assurant and Humana. These companies feature rates that are often just a fraction of the cost of a conventional policy. For example, a family of three (Ages 40, 38 and 7) in the Columbus area will only pay between $70 and $95 per month for coverage. A wide range of deductibles is available, and naturally, lower deductibles will increase the premium.

Short Term Policy Features

*Coverage is designed to be effective for a short period of time…usually between 1 and 12 months. Once the policy ends, you may be forced to re-qualify for additional coverage. If you have paid for coverage that you have not used, a refund will be processed on the unused portion. You are not obligated to keep a temporary policy any length of time.

* Pre-existing conditions are generally not covered. Also, coverage is usually “catastrophic” instead of “comprehensive.” However, some plans, such as the Medical Mutual short term policy, will provide some office visit coverage. Prescription benefits are often included, subject to policy limitations. If you are willing to accept higher out-of-pocket expenses, the rate will reduce.

*Rates are typically low…as much as 30%-60% less than a conventional policy. And because of its low cost, preventative coverage is usually not included.A wide variety of deductibles is usually available, ranging from $250-$5,000.

*Most Ohio short term insurance plans allow you to pay monthly, or pay all of your premiums in advance. When paying in advance, most companies discount the rate. A typical Ohio short term health insurance plan is usually approved within 24-48 hours. The standard short-term application is brief and typically takes less than 20 minutes to complete.
